Moving Beyond Church as Usual: Why We Need "More & Better Disciples"

What does it truly mean to follow Jesus in a world that is constantly shifting? Is church simply a routine we check off each week, or is it intended to be a dynamic movement that changes us—and the world around us—from the inside out?

Starting on October 18, we are embarking on a transformative new sermon series titled "More & Better Disciples." This series isn't just about attendance or numbers; it’s about alignment, growth, and living with Kingdom purpose.

At the heart of this series is the Great Commission Engine—a visual framework illustrating how every part of our spiritual lives works together. From gathering as a community to living fully surrendered, connecting in deep relationships, and partnering together in generosity and mission, every element powers our calling to make disciples.

Week 1 (Oct 18): The Power of Showing Up

(Catalytic Weekend Experience) We live in an age where almost everything can be done remotely, conveniently, and on-demand. But when it comes to faith, there is something irreplaceable about presence.

The weekend gathering isn't just a tradition; it’s a catalytic experience. When God’s people gather under one roof to worship, hear the Word, and lift up one voice, something spiritual happens that simply cannot be replicated in isolation. In the Great Commission Engine, the catalytic weekend experience acts as the spark. It inspires us, reorients our hearts toward God, and equips us to live out our faith in the coming week. Showing up is often the very first step toward a transformed life.

  • Reflect: How has simply showing up in community shaped your faith in the past?
  • Call to Action: Bring someone with you this Sunday and experience the presence of God together!

Week 2 (Oct 25): The Power of Saying "Yes"

(Surrendered Living) The Freedom of Surrender

In a culture that constantly urges us to "take control" and "follow our own heart," Jesus offers a radically different path: surrender. This Sunday in our series, we focus on "THE POWER OF SAYING 'YES' (Surrendered Living)." To become a disciple of Jesus means laying down our own plans, our own agendas, and our own need for control in exchange for His greater purpose.

Saying "yes" to Jesus isn't a one-time decision—it’s a daily lifestyle. It fuels the Great Commission Engine by moving us from being passive spectators to active participants in God’s work. When we surrender our time, talents, and desires, we experience the true freedom and joy that only comes from walking in His will.

  • Reflect: Is there an area in your life right now where God is asking you to say "yes"?

  • Call to Action: Step into surrendered living this week—ask God each morning, "What is your 'yes' for me today?"

Week 3 (Nov 1): The Power of Finding Your People

(Life-Changing Relationships) Faith Was Never Meant to Be Done Alone

God never intended for you to walk out your faith on an island. From the very beginning, design dictated that we need community—people who celebrate with us, pray for us, challenge us, and stand with us during tough seasons.

This Sunday, we explore "THE POWER OF FINDING YOUR PEOPLE (Life-Changing Relationships)." In the Great Commission Engine, life-changing relationships provide the fuel of accountability and care. True disciple-making happens in the context of authentic community.

If you’ve felt disconnected or isolated lately, this message is for you. Finding your people isn't just about making friends; it's about building spiritual partnerships that help you grow into the person God created you to be.

  • Reflect: Who are the key people in your life helping you follow Jesus?

  • Call to Action: Take a step toward community this week—join a small group or reach out to someone after service!

Week 4 (Nov 8): When Word & Spirit Meet

The Engine at Full Power: Word & Spirit

As we conclude our series on "More & Better Disciples," we arrive at a vital truth: true, sustainable disciple-making requires both the foundation of God’s Word and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Our final message in this series is "WHEN WORD & SPIRIT MEET."

  • The Word gives us truth, direction, and wisdom.

  • The Spirit gives us power, passion, and life.

When the truth of Scripture meets the living power of the Holy Spirit inside a believer and inside a church, the Great Commission Engine operates at full capacity! We become bold witnesses, compassionate servants, and devoted followers of Jesus. Join us as we wrap up this transformational series and step forward into all that God has planned for us!

  • Reflect: Is your daily walk leaning more on human effort, or are you walking in the power of the Holy Spirit and the truth of the Word?

  • Call to Action: Come expectant this Sunday as we worship and pray for a fresh movement of Word and Spirit in our lives!

Week 5 (Nov 15): Investing in Eternity: Kingdom Report Day

Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Generosity is one of the clearest indicators of a heart aligned with God’s mission. This Sunday is a defining moment in our series: "KINGDOM REPORT DAY." Generosity keeps the Great Commission Engine running smoothly and expands its reach. When we give, we aren't just funding budget line items; we are investing in transformed lives, local outreach, global missions, and the future of our church.

Kingdom Report Day is an opportunity for each of us to pray, give sacrificially, and partner with God in what He is doing in and through our church family. Together, our collective generosity makes an eternal impact!

  • Reflect: How does giving reflect our trust in God’s provision?

  • Call to Action: Prayerfully consider how God is calling you to participate on Kingdom Report Day!

Week 6 (Nov 22): Keep the River Flowing

(Partners in the Great Commission) Becoming a Conduit, Not a Reservoir

A lake with no outlet eventually becomes stagnant. But a river—a body of water where life continually flows in and out—stays fresh, vibrant, and fruitful. The same is true for our faith.

This week, we look at "KEEP THE RIVER FLOWING (Partners in the Great Commission)." As disciples, God doesn't pour His blessings, grace, and truth into our lives just for us to hold onto them. He intends for us to be channels through which His love flows out to others.

When we see ourselves as true partners in the Great Commission, we share the Gospel, serve our neighbors, and actively invest in making more disciples. Together, we keep the river of God's blessing moving into our city and around the world.

  • Reflect: How can you be a channel of God’s grace to someone in your sphere of influence this week?

  • Call to Action: Ask God to show you one person who needs to experience His love through you.

Whether you've been walking with God for decades or are just beginning to ask big questions about faith, there is a place for you in this story. Join us as we fire up the engine and discover what happens when a church unifies around the mission of Jesus!
