Fire in the Mouth: Taming the Most Untamable Thing

The average person speaks an astonishing 7,000 words a day. Each one of those words—from the casual comment to the crucial conversation—carries weight. What if we told you the most dangerous, most powerful, and most transformative thing in your life right now isn't a job, a relationship, or a financial decision, but a muscle tucked right behind your teeth?

This November, our new series, “Fire in the Mouth: Taming the Most Untamable Thing,” dives deep into James chapter 3, the Bible's most bracing and practical text on the power of the tongue.

James paints a vivid picture: The tongue is small, yet it sets the course of our entire life, like a tiny rudder steering a massive ship. It is also described as a "restless evil, full of deadly poison." That sounds intense—because it is. Our words can ignite a forest fire of conflict, tear down a reputation, or leave scars that last a lifetime.

Over four weeks, we will equip you with wisdom to harness this incredible power:

  • Nov 9: Small Words, Big Impact (James 3:1-5)
We begin by recognizing the enormous responsibility that comes with being a speaker. If we can master our mouth, we can master our whole selves.
  • Nov 16: The Pyromaniac Tongue (James 3:5b-8)
We confront the destructive potential of careless speech and learn why the tongue is so difficult to tame—and what God offers to help us.
  • Nov 23: Blessing or Cursing? Pick a Lane (James 3:9-12)
A stark challenge: Can a spring pour out both fresh and bitter water? We'll examine the hypocrisy of praising God and then cursing people made in His image.
  • Nov 30: Who’s Really Wise? Proof is in the Fruit (James 3:13-18)
The series culminates in a look at true, God-given wisdom versus earthly, selfish wisdom. The way we speak is the ultimate test of what kind of wisdom governs our heart.

Don't miss this crucial series. Come discover how to turn the "fire in your mouth" from a destructive blaze into a powerful, constructive force for good in your life and the lives of those around you.

Join us this November! Sundays at 9 am and 11 am.
