Pyromaniac Tongue

God stood on the edge of nothing and SPOKE

He created the universe by the power of His Words

Universe still expanding

I bet if they could measure the speed it would be at least speed of sound

Sound waves don’t die

This room is filled with sound waves spoken in past. /. You’re home

We’re surrounded by sound waves at all times

What are you receiving????

What are you sending out???

Positive or negative?

There is creative power in words…

Not just in God’s words but in YOURS…

Prov. 18:21

Pray

Greetings Great Commission Church

I love you guys

Incredible privilege to be here

Love your pastor and his family

He’s building a great church…

Let’s celebrate P.T.

Today LET’S TALK ABOUT  “eating the fruit of our words”

We rarely think of eating your words

I’ll make you eat those words….

Eat = devour, slay x sword, consume x fire”

Henry ford was discouraged in trying to build his first car

There is a reason it was called the model T

He was introduced to Thomas Edison

As the man trying to build a gas powered car

That is amazing a car with it’s own power source

His words of encouragement empowered Ford to continue….

He build a legacy….

As saints.

Your words matter so much more…

Life and death are in the power of your words

On screen:

Construction takes years, destruction takes seconds.

Fp is just a few miles from where the atom bomb was made

Yet your words have so much more power

You are injecting your kids… with your faith or your fear…

On screen

Will your legacy be one of faith or fear??

10 of 12 spies cost an entire generation to die in the desert…

Words have won and lost elections

Words have started and stopped wars

Words have raised up men and women of God

Words have raised up convicts and killers…

Words can change a bad situation..

Words can change emotions

Words can determine how we feel and our families….

On screen:

Words can be a launching pad or a prison cell…

On screen:

Your words can create anxiety or affirmation.

Jam. 3:5-8

Expound

Words bless and curse

Which one are you known for????

You’ll eat your words….

He is my favorite preacher. He may only be your second favorite preacher, and so would you guys. You guys know him if you're new. If not, enjoy. Would you guys give a big great Commission welcome to Pastor Chris.
Whoo. God, he stepped out on the edge of nothing and he said something. And the universe was created by the power of the spoken word of the heavens. The stars were flung into the skies, and the universe. Matter of fact, scientists tell us that the universe is still expanding north, south, east, and west because when God sent his word out, his word never stops.
And the universe just. We don't know what speed that it is expanding, but is expanding all the way around because sound waves don't die. It just keeps moving. This room is filled with sound waves. Current past.
And so your home is filled with sound waves. Things you said, things that you will say. We're surrounded by these waves all the time. The problem is we don't receive them all because we have a certain intent and it only picks up certain frequencies. What frequency is your antenna set to?
What. What frequent. What are you sending out in the way of words, positive or negative? Because there's power in words. But there's not just power in God's word or in God's creative word that he sent out, but there's power in your words as well.
The scripture said in Proverbs 18:21, Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat of its fruit. Father God, we have spent time praying. We prayed for people. We know the people have been healed. They've been filled, they've been touched, they've been encouraged.
We know that, God, you have done miracles, and you will continue to do miracles. And Father, I pray that every heart would tune in and be receptive to your word and their words. Lives will be changed because of what we have experienced and what we'll hear through your word. So God speak to us, give revelation and impartation is our prayer in Jesus name. And all God's people said, welcome, Great Commission Church.
Who's fired up to be in the house of God this weekend, man. Love you guys. We. We love. We love this church.
We're privileged to be here. We've got some friends, the Nows and the Dees and. And some just friends. It's our privilege. I have to tell you, I love your pastor.
I love his family. I love his wife. I love his boys. I love them. And he's been here, planted this, and there was nothing.
God used Pastor Trevor and has built a life Changing life, giving church. And the Bible says in Hebrews that we should make it a joy for our leaders to lead and can tell you. Come on. Can we give Pastor Trevor some love this morning, man. Love.
Respect him so much. So today we're going to talk about eating the fruit of your words. We rarely think about eating our words. We think about eating food, but we don't think about eating our words. I know when I was a kid in the playground and all the boys are smarting off and somebody will make a comment, somebody will say, I'm going to make you eat them words.
Y' all remember that? Well, we all eat them words. All of us eat them continually. Eat means to devour, to slay or to consume. Henry Ford was discouraged because he was working on the Model T. Do you know why they called it the Model T?
Because Model A, failed, Model B, failed Model C. I think it's funny because I'm a Chevrolet guy. But it was the Dodge brothers that perfected the Model T, not Henry. It was the Dodge brothers. And so he was discouraged, about to give up and he meets Thomas Edison, the great inventor. And there had.
And so they're introducing Henry Ford to Thomas Edison. They said, this is Henry Ford, he's trying to build a gas powered car. Thomas said that's incredible. That's marvelous. A car with its own engine.
That's unbelievable. And those words gave him the encouragement he needed to go finish the project. Literally invent the assembly line. And what a legacy that this guy has and what he created as saints. People that are followers of Jesus.
Your words matter so much more and they matter more than we realize because the Bible says life and death are in the power of our words. Let's think about something. I used to be a working construction and still love to build. Construction takes years, destruction takes seconds.
I've watched families of 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 years be destroyed. An instant. Ministries, churches, businesses, small groups, lives be destroyed just so quickly after it took so long to build it. We're just faith promise. Our broadcast campus is just a few miles down the road from Oak Ridge National Laboratory and where they enrich uranium to build the bomb that they dropped.
Bombs they dropped in World War II. And we see the destructive power that those had. That's nothing compared to the power that you have in your words. It is incredible. They have so much power.
So let me ask you a question. If you're a parent, what words are you injecting into your kids? Are you injecting your faith? Are you injecting Your fears. Because I can be at church and I don't know the little kids because they're rarely in the big room.
But I'll hear a kid running down the aisle and hear them talking. I don't need to see them. I know who their parent is. Y' all with me. And there's some.
I say, dear Jesus, help that kid. Their mom and dad's crazy boy. Kids come. You know what I'm talking about. So if you have kids, you're injecting them every day with your words.
You're filling them or you're sucking them dry. You're giving them life. The power of death and life are in the words. And so what are you giving him with? Will your legacy be one of fear or will it be one of faith?
An illustration that we all know is the 12 spies that Joshua sent in the promised land or Moses sent. And they come back and to have faith and 10 have fear. And the 10 that have fear inject their words into the 2 plus million Israelites and instill them with their fear. And. And that whole generation died chasing their tail in the wilderness because 10 dudes injected them with poisonous death giving words.
Does that make sense? See these just normal guys again. We don't think that our words matter. Words have won in law selections. Words have started and stopped wars.
Words have raised up men and women of God. And words have raised up convicts and killers. Your words can change a bad situation. Your words can determine your emotions. Words can determine how you feel about your family, about your future, about your church, about your country, about your ministry.
Words determine how we feel. Words. The words you speak can be a launching pad or they can be a prison cell. And I've watched people every convict. We have three church campuses in prisons in the state of Tennessee.
Every convict that I. That I talk with, it was prophesied over them. You'll be in jail. You mean it's like your daddy, he was a convict. You're going to be a convict like your uncle.
You're never going to amount to anything. What people prophesied spoke over them. Death. Are y' all with me? And that's where they went.
When I. When I did a study, there wasn't one. There wasn't one Jewish person incarcerated in the state of Tennessee because they don't curse their kids. They bless their kids. Every Shabbat meal, they speak over them.
The mother walks and speaks and the father walks and speaks, and they lay hands. When. First time I was in Israel, we had a Shabbat meal with a Jewish family. It was incredibly insightful. And just watching how.
But then watching the mother and the father, I said, there's the secret. They're blessing their children while we curse some of ours. Are y' all with me? Come on, y'. All.
Okay. And so it is what we say, what we do. It is so important. Your words can create anxiety or they can create affirmation. Now we're in the book.
We've been in the book of James. And so let's pick James chapter three up, which is our next passage in this series. So also, the tongue is a small part of the body. Think about it. If you weigh 200 pounds, how much does your tongue weigh?
Two ounces an ounce. It's such an insignificant amount of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest fire set aflame by such a small fire. And the tongue is a fire. The very world of iniquity.
And the tongue is set among our members, our body, and that which defiles the entire body. Defile means to stain. You ever got a stain on a new garment and said, I've ruined the garment? That's what the word defile means. It means to ruin.
It means to stain. It means to leave a spot. It defiles your entire body. It is set on fire. The course of our life and is set on fire by what?
By hell. For every species of birds, beasts and birds and reptiles and creatures of the sea is tamed and has been tamed by the human race. But no one can tame the tongue. Wow. A two ounce pieces of meat.
A piece of meat. Hang it in your mouth and we can't control it. Y' all with me? I love it when somebody says something, or my kids were little and they would say smart often, and they would say, dad, I'm sorry, I don't know where that came from. I said, I know where it came from, your black heart.
I know exactly where it came from.
But no one can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. And he goes on, I would challenge you to go back and just spend 30 minutes meditating in James 3 sometime during this next week. And let the word just wash over. Let it remind you.
Let it let just of what the tongue is. With it we bless, and with it we curse. With it we bless God, and with it we curse people that are made in the image of God. Can salt water and bitter water come from the same well? It shouldn't be.
But it does, doesn't it? So what are we going to do? Because here, here's the deal. You're going to eat your words. Going to eat them.
The words you speak will create a narrative for your kids, for your marriage, for your ministry, for your small group, for your future, for your grandkids. Proverbs 25:11 says this. I love it like apples of gold and settings of silver. And is the word spoken in right circumstances.
In a book I read, there was a story of a woman that committed suicide. She left a note. The note said two words. They said, they said. They always saying, aren't they?
They said, wonder what was said to her that took her to such a low point that she took her own life. What was it now? For years again, I came from multiple broken homes. Sex abuse, physically abused. I never knew the love of a father.
It was only abuse. Emotional screaming, cussing, yelling all the time. And so that's the background. I married my wife, Michelle. She's wonderful.
She's the second best thing God ever did for me. And again I go to meet her. I'm an ex drug addict, dope dealer. Her dad is an FBI agent. Gun toting GI Man, y' all with me?
Gun totty. And so we get married. And boy, did she get the short end of the stick. And I did what I was taught. I always picked Michelle apart.
I. I focused on the things I did not like about Michelle. I focused on and just things that she should get better at. Are you with me? Come on. Idiot.
And gentlemen, back there, my man Heath Deets. I preached a sermon because he was in the church in Jennings. And I made fun. I made a couple jokes about my wife. His mother wrote me a letter and I actually, I was going over these notes, notes.
You gotta go back in your files and find that letter. Cause I know I kept it. And she tore me a new one. She said, I love my pastor and I love my pastor's wife. And I was so disappointed in you Sunday, the way you talked about your wife.
I folded that letter up, I laid my little pointed head on the desk and I began to weep and cry and repent, Repent.
But here's what happened. And now these was so right in what she said. My marriage is great today. And a part of it is because of your mom, Heath, because she wrote me that letter. Because what I started doing is I quit focusing on what I didn't like and start focused on what I did like.
I started focusing on where she was incredible. I started praising her. I started talking about her to other people. And instead of being Negative. I was only positive.
Michelle's wonderful. She does this. She's. And you know what happened? I began to love Michelle more.
And I began to want to be around her even more. Why? Because I changed my focus. I changed my words. And instead of discouragement, it was encouragement.
Instead of criticism, it was praise. So can we all grow in this area? Are y' all with me? And so it was. It was, we need some I will.
Psalms 91:2 said, I will say to the Lord. He didn't say, I will believe. He said, I will say to the Lord, my refuge and my fortress in God whom I trust. We need some new I wills. I will walk in the Holy Spirit.
I will walk in power. I will be encouraging. I'll pay off my house. I'll be healthy. I'll be loving.
I'll be kind. We get rid of the Never get rid of all the negatives. I'll never. I'll never get married. I'll never get off drugs.
I'll never lose weight. I'll never get a gr. I'll never get rid of those. Are y' all with me? You just gotta get rid of them.
You gotta cut them out of your lives. Because here's the deal. Your words give life to your faith.
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Say it. Say it. Spray it, wheel it, deal it. I mean, get it.
Just get it out there. I'm picking up. So what I started doing is picking up some I ams. I am. See, your I am will determine the direction of your life all through the day.
The power of I'm is at work. See, I used to say, I'm clumsy, I'm this, I'm that. All the negative things now I say, I start by positives. I'm blessed and highly favored. I'm filled with the spirit of God.
Today I'm a child. I'm God's favorite. Today, I'm gonna be kind. Today I'm gonna produce fruit of the Holy Spirit. Today I'm gonna eat my words today.
Because you're gonna eat them every day. Death and life. From the power of the tongue and those who love it. That means the words will eat of its fruit. Let me tell you, you can love it or hate it.
You can eat positive or you can eat negative. But you're going to eat it. Mark chapter 1123. Truly, truly, I say to you. Whoever says, come on, somebody.
Whoever what says to the mountain, Whoever says it, we don't want to say it because it might not happen. And then we Think we'll look bad? Are y' all with me? And so we. We got it.
We got to do it. We got it. Most of us allowed. Allowed what other people have said about us, to limit us. Well, he's just not that.
He's not that smart. She's just not that cool. He'll never learn. She'll never make it. Why would you let somebody limit you by lying words?
The devil, Jesus said, is the father. Of what? Of lies. Why would. What do you know?
Most of us come. If I could be honest. Can we be wrong? Real. We spend more time defending lies about us than we do our faith.
Well, I. You know, my mama was like this just the way I am. Keep those negative. I am going to. And that is what you'll be.
If you say it, you can seize it. What you profess, you can possess. I'm not talking about name and claim it. Blab it, grab it, materialize Mercedes in your driveway. See, the problem is that we've seen people take this theology to the excess.
And so we got. We threw it all away. And we don't think, hey, it doesn't matter what I say. God said it does. But you don't believe it.
So we don't watch our words. We let them devour people. It's just what we do. You are what God says you are. Psalms 107.
2. Let the redeemed of the Lord. Let the redeemed of the Lord. Don't let the devil put a label on you. Part of the crazy in America today is we think that we have the ability to identify who and what we are.
So if I'm a girl, feel like I'm a boy, I'm a boy. If I feel like I'm a furry, I'm a furry. Whatever I feel like is. And hey, listen, only the Father has naming rights. And the Father made you what you are.
But we think we have the power to self identify when God has already identified who we are. My name is Christopher. Shockingly, my family was so godless, it was ridiculous. Yet my mother and biological father, without knowing me, named me what I am, Christopher, which means Christ bearer. They're going to fortune tellers.
They're reading Ouija boards. They're going to fortune tellers. And one of the fortune tellers looked at my mom and she said, one of y' all gonna have a boy. He's gonna be my enemy.
Can I tell you? Hell's afraid of you. Quit using your words to free hell. Use your words to bring heaven. Are you okay?
My name's Chris. I'm just your friend. It's gonna be all right. It's gonna be over. Gonna baptize you, have lunch.
It's gonna be okay.
And so, man, I work on new phrases like I love you. You're my favorite. Thank you so much. You're incredible. Ephesians 2:10.
For you are his workmanship, his masterpiece. Created in Christ Jesus. Unto good works which God before dam that you should walk in them. See, not only do you eat the words your mouth, but others are going to eat the word of your mouth. Proverbs 16:20.
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb. Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. You help other people bless. If you got a poor mouth, you have a poor life.
Are you with me? Okay. And so you can't. You can't talk. Lack and experience.
Expect to have abundance. It doesn't work that way. You can't speak defeat and expect to live in victory. Speak victory, you say. But you don't understand my circumstances.
The Bible said in Romans, speak to that which is not. As though it is. When my son Micah decided to take long laps in the stupid pool. Goes to ut. Better prepare your kids for college.
If they're going, you better be warriors. Those professors will twist them into knots. And my son grew up on the word. They twist him in knots. He decided to go out there and live the party life.
Every time I saw him, said, hey, man of God, how you doing? He looked at me and said, come on, dad, I'm not a man of God. No, you're not. You're not what you're doing. I'm telling you what you're becoming.
You're a man of God. And today he's got a ministry that spans across this country, impacting hundreds of churches, doing an incredible job. He's a man of God. I wasn't going to speak the devil's words over him. This one could do it.
Got to speak life. See, we send our words out in the direction that we want our lives to go. With your marriage, with your ministry, with your small group, with everything you are. And here's the problem now, if you're young, if you're 35 and below, we'll call that young. I used to think that was old.
Now it's really young.
Don't let your feelings drive your words. Let the word drive your words, and the words drive how you feel. We put too much stock in how we feel and not enough in what God says.
Feelings are fickle as the wind. I mean, Everybody has them. Just because you have a feeling doesn't mean it's factual.
And so it is. It just so matters. Let your words determine your emotions, not your emotions determining your words. Does this make sense? Come on, somebody.
Like today, we haven't got the hundred grand yet. We will reach the hundred grand, won't we? Excuse me. We will reach 100 grand, won't we? The only question is, what part are you going to do?
What am I going to do? We've done it for years. Matter of fact, today, my son, who's now the senior pastor of the church that Michelle and I planted text this morning said, today, dad, two million dollar offering today. So we have a once year offering. He said, Today, $2 million today.
I said, in Jesus name. It's going to be so, son. It's going to be so. We're going to take that 100 plus. See, sometimes think when I give a great commission, I'm not making that big an impact.
That is such a lie. You are empowering missions around the world. Around the world, you say, But I want a new truck. You can drive that new truck. There's nothing wrong with getting a new truck.
But you taking a new truck to heaven.
Okay, okay. He didn't like that. All right, let's keep going.
Are you with me? Come on, somebody. Listen, I don't want to brag about how much money I have. I'm gonna brag. I'm gonna brag about how much I give because giving goes to heaven.
Matter of fact, I plan to live old enough to spend all my children's inheritance. I tell my kids I'm planning. Listen, I'm gonna live old enough to be a burden to y'. All. And they said, dad, we're taking care of mom.
You are going to a home that smells like pee. We're going to hunt the worst home we can find. It's very hurtful. If I had a feeling, it would have been hurt.
Can we have fun at church? Come on, somebody. The words that you say are seeds for the future. And you're going to eat the fruit. Good or bad, it's a fact.
So let's not sow weed into the seeds. The servant comes to the homeowner and said, hey, I've been in the field. I thought you put good seed in the wheat field. I did. Well, why are there weeds?
Why are there tares? And a tare looks like a. Looks like wheat, but it has no fruit. It has no. There's no.
There's no head on it. I thought you sowed good seed. And what does the homeowner say? An enemy has come and sowed weed into the seeds. See, the enemy will always sow weed into our seed if we'll let him.
That's why we take all the devil's vocabulary out of our mouth. And we speak life, we speak love, we speak encouragement. We should be dealers in hope and love. Your words are going to bless or curse your future. I was at a pastor's gathering probably eight years ago.
Again, no dad, just. And the only role models having dad were so perverted and so sick and twisted. And we were. It was about 50 men, and there were like three or four older guys. All these guys are 80.
All these guys are sort of like prophets and. And, you know, we're all kneeling and praying. These guys are giving words. Coach Tom Mullins, who's become a daddy, came and knelt by me. He reached out and kissed me on the cheek.
He said, son, let me tell you something. I'm so proud of you. And I melted. I mean melted and wilted into a 30 minute sob session because no man had ever said, I'm proud of you. Those words suck to the core of, who are y' all with me.
So I tell my kids all the time, I'm so proud of you. I'm so proud. I tell people at church, I tell people, I'm just so proud of you. Plant words to nourish and cherish others, and your harvest will be explosive. It's incredible.
I had a circle driveway at a house that we built, and I put a bloomin cherry and three double knockout roses. Oh, it was incredible. It's beautiful, if I do say so myself. Then one day I looked out at my double knockout rose bushes, and there was a white flower on a red rose bush. Says, that's odd.
I go out and there's a vine on that white flower. That's odd. I go out the next day, it's all over the rose bush choking the life out. I rip the vine off and rip all the roses off, trying to pull it off. I go out there, a week later, it's over, all three of my rose bushes.
I go, we're out of the country. I come back in two weeks. They killed. They had killed my. My cherry and my three rose bushes.
I took a picture. I went down to the nursery. I said, well, what is this? They said, well, that's wisteria. I said, well, how can I get rid of wisteria?
And the lady at the counter said, well, sir, if I was you, I would pull the tree, I would pull the rose bushes up and I would concrete over it because you'll never grow anything there. The weeds destroyed the seeds and there are so many people's lives that are devastated because of weeds. Words that are negative, that are critical. This makes sense now. I've won to a great degree the battle of what I speak to other people.
You know, I've really failed this battle. I fail it miserably. How I talk to me about me. I'm the most critical negative person on me that you'll ever find. And so man, I work on how I, how I talk to me.
You should know the truth and the truth will set you free. Does this make sense? So I want to, I'm going to pray for just sake but I want to do a declaration. If you'll put that verse up on the screen. See what?
Let the redeemed of the Lord. What? That's three of you. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. So we are gonna, we're gonna declare this, I wrote this out.
We're just going to declare this together. Are you ready? Come on, let's read it together. I declare I will speak only positive words of faith and victory over myself, my family and my future. I will not use my words to describe the situation.
I will call him favor, good breaks, healing and restoration. I will not talk to God about how big my problems are. I will talk to my problems about how big my God is. My words will have power and I will release life as I speak. I will be an encourager and a life giver.
Help me Holy Spirit to live up to this declaration. Come on somebody.
Father God, we come to you right now in the name of Jesus and Lord. This is a battle. We don't have a great high priest like there was in the Old Testament. We have a great high priest who understands our weaknesses and yet never once fail. And so Father, I ask you to give us power of the Holy Ghost to control that little two ounce piece of meat in our mouths.
That we speak life and love, we speak encouragement, that we bless and not curse. That we have the fruit that we're going to eat of our words that will be a fruit of an incredible harvest of transformation, of lives of hope, of victory, of peace, of walking in the shalom of God. Father Yeshua Hamashiach Would you release into through us and in us your power to speak out that in how we should speak God, we believe it and we receive it and we've declared it in Jesus name. We pray it. And all God's people said, give him a shout of praise, will you?
Come on, Pastor, with a little more practice and preaching. Do you want to preach the Bible since he left?
I want you to welcome to the stage Sheila Hershberg, who's going to oversee this, and Lindsay Hannigan. We're getting ready to baptize her. How long?
Lindsay is my dear friend, but even more than that, Lindsay is my one. And Lindsay's been my one for going on, what, four years? Yeah, long before we ever had a one campaign. God put her on my heart before I knew what a one was.

The note she left said

It effected how I saw her

Then I repented

My view of her changed drastically

I WILL:

Ps. 91:2 “I will say to the Lord, My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust.”

Others will eat the words of your mouth….

Prov. 16:24

“Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.”

If you have a poor mouth you’ll live a poor life

On screen:

You can’t talk lack and expect to have abundance.

On screen:

You can’t speak defeat and expect to live in victory

We send our words out in the direction we want our lives to go

Same with our family friend…..

Don’t let your feelings drive your words…

Let the Word drive your words….

Words drive how you feel

On screen:

We put too much stock in how we feel, and not enough in what God says.

Let your words determine your emotions

Not your emotions determining you words

Conc. The words you say are seeds for the future

You will eat of its fruit

Good or bad it is a fact

Let’s sow good seeds…

Your words will bless or curse your future…..

Coach Mullins

“I’m so proud of you son.”

Plant words to nourish and cherish others

Your harvest will be explosive….

No weed in the seed.

An enemy sowed Weed in our field…

Circle driveway and wisteria ….

Concrete it over

Weeds have won….

Weeds can destroy good plants…..

One last thought:

I’ve won for the most part in speaking to others

Where I fail is speaking about myself….

I still plant weeds in my heart…

You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.

DECLARATION TOGETHER:

On screen

Matt. 12:34 “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”.

I declare I will speak only positive words of faith and victory

Over myself, my family, and my future.

I will not use my words to describe the situation.

I will call in favor, good breaks, healing, and restoration.

I will not talk to God about how big my problems are.

I will talk to my problems about how big my God is.

My words have power and I will release life as I speak.

I will be an encourager and a life giver.

Help me Holy Spirit to live up to this declaration.
